Simplicity is the key to styling your home with flowers this summer and if you want blooms that are in season then choose beautiful, big, bold hydrangea.
They are ideal for all styles of interiors and their range of colours from blue, lilac, and pink through to lime green and white means there is sure to be a colour combination that works with your home.
Hydrangea have been common as a garden plant for many years but their popularity as a cut flower is increasing.
They are more expensive per stem than your average flower but as their heads can be as big as 20cm in diameter you will need fewer flowers to create a look. In fact, you could get away with one head. If you change the water and re-cut the stems every few days, hydrangea can last for weeks before eventually drying out, often in a state where you can still display them as dried flowers.
As the name suggests, these flowers need lots of water.
This week’s step-by-step is a contemporary arrangement which shows off these flowers at their best – bold, beautiful colour.
You will need..
5 hydrangea heads in different colours 2 ceramic vases Flower cost: pounds 20-30 STEP ONE Fill vases with water and flower food.
STEP TWO Strip foliage from lower part of hydrangea stem. Cut hydrangea stems at a sharp angle.
STEP THREE Insert into vases.
Top tips: more Choose than one colour to add depth to and texture this simple arrangement.
