Creating Pathways

Pathways

One of the best ways to draw people out and into your yard is to lead them there with a pathway. There are two approaches to this:

Traditional Paths, meaning straight, orthoganal, linier paths or…..

Wandering, meandering, winding paths. Personally, I prefer these to to the more tradional versions. They seem to lend themselves to the sense of playful adventure that is more fun for the kid in you.

Below are some pathways that would be a terrific addition to any garden:

Narrow Steps can add different levels to your garden

Try working with geometric shapes to add dimention

Uniform pathways are a nice way to acheive a clean look

Try mixing shapes for a fun, not-so-uniform look

2×4″s paired with some overgrown grass makes for a beautiful, woodsy path

A few cobblestones laid out is a great way to beautify a small space

Evenly spaces yard stones are never a bad way to go

Try mixing small and large stones for that small cottage like feel

Gravel paths are inexpensive and look terrific.  Gravel makes a nice sound when walking on as well.

Try making a path out of some old river rocks for a natural focal point.

More path ideas to come!
