Focal points

 One of my favorite techniques when building my garden is to create focal points, simple little destinations along the way that catch your eve and draw your attention. These can be as simple as a few pavers with a pot in the center of them, or an complex as a pond with a water wheel.

-Brightly or Blandly colored pots.

-Small but noteworthy water features
